REGATHERING 2026: Let’s Regather Online on May 29!

As with last year, BMCA is offering a one-day event to build on ideas and experiences from the 2025 online gathering, while introducing the upcoming event this October.

The Regathering program for Friday, May 29, 2026 has been shaped into short sessions that include experiential workshops and community circles, to discuss specific topics, provide a forum for feedback, and help shape the future online encounter.

We are embracing this year’s Regathering as an opportunity to engage with the theme of Ecology, which is the theme of our upcoming 3-day online event from October 2-4, 2026. Ecology is a reliably fertile framework for considering questions of sustainability and how we relate to each other and our environment, equally relevant at the micro and macro levels, and in the biological, psychophysical, and metaphorical realms.

Regathering is a free online event for BMCA Explorer and Professional members. Additionally, a selected number of live sessions and pre-recorded interviews will be free and open to the public (BMCA Community members).

We very much look forward to sharing the day with you!

The Regathering space on our community platform is now open and free to join.

Body-Mind Centering® is described as an approach and its experiential study as a creative process.

As both an approach and a process (rather than a defined technique), BMC® readily intersects with, layers upon, and engages in generative dialogue with related disciplines, diverse fields, and applications.

Liaisons was a three-day online event held in November 2025 that spotlighted some of the many ways in which Body-Mind Centering® has been applied to a range of disciplines and has helped shape cross-exchanges between BMC® and other approaches and disciplines, organized within the following topics:

  • BMC® & contemplative practices

  • BMC® & creative process

  • BMC® & dance / performing arts education

  • BMC® & developmental movement education and therapy

  • BMC®-informed psychotherapeutic and trauma approaches

The gathering featured Body-Mind Centering® founder Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and more than 40 other teachers, practitioners, and explorers of BMC® from over 15 countries.

CELEBRATING BMC® 2024

50 years of
somatic movement education

The BMCA Board of Directors welcomed Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and a rich line-up of BMC® teachers and program directors from around the world to share from their unique experiences and journeys, and their current explorations and questions.

The three-day online event was a celebration of our shared history, an opportunity to experience teachers who helped develop and spread BMC®-infused pedagogy, and an invitation to consider BMC®’s place in the development of somatic movement education.

All sessions and interviews feature BMCA Professional members who are certified BMC®Teachers, have taught in the early SBMC programs, and/or have directed BMC®-based somatic movement education programs in different regions around the world.

The gathering featured Body-Mind Centering® founder Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen and almost 40 other BMC® teachers and program directors.

About Karin Spitfire
Karin Spitfire is a poet, artist, and feminist activist. Spitfire created and performed nationally a piece titled “Incest: It’s All Relative,” from 1982-1990. Utilizing what she learned from her own process, dance, and theater training, she began doing workshops for trauma survivors. In 1987, she began her BMC training, and learned to identify and begin to release trauma in all the tissues of her bodies, as well as recognizing embodiment and expression as fundamental sources of power. She has worked with hundreds of individuals and groups over the years.

Karin taught at the first SBMC-approved satellite program in Amsterdam with Jacques Van Eijden from ‘96-’99 and at SBMC in Amherst from ‘02-’08.  She was one of the first to teach psycho-physical integration and she taught counseling skills courses that fulfilled the SBMC requirement for practitioner certification.

Spitfire has a BA and MA in Women’s Studies, is a certified practitioner and teacher of BMC®, registered counselor, and OT. Spitfire is the author of two poetry books Standing with Trees(2006) and The Body in Late Stage Capitalism (2021).
